Monthly Short Film Night
Write Shoot Cut is not only a blog, it is also EDINBURGH’S ONLY MONTHLY SHORT FILM NETWORKING NIGHT.
Our next screening is on Monday 13th May.
We launched the screening event in March 2012 to a packed audience in the Banshee Labyrinth Cinema and it really has gone from strength to strength since then. So far we have had a World Première screening and two European Première screenings, as well as several Scottish Premières.
In September we were delighted to gain the support of Screen Education Edinburgh with whom screenings are now run in association with.
What we do is very simple:
- Write Shoot Cut is a FREE short film networking event, free to submit, free to attend.
- It takes place on the second Monday of every month at the wonderful Banshee Labyrinth Cinema.
- Films start at 7.30pm with a Q&A after each film with the filmmakers/cast (if in attendance).
- The screenings run until around 9.00pm and then we decamp to the bar for (cheap) drinks and chat.
As the nights have developed it has become clear that people really love the relaxed feeling of the screenings and networking Many people have said they feel part of a community coming along and we are aware of several connections that have been made as a result of meetings at Write Shoot Cut, so it is definitely a good place to come if you are an independent filmmaker.
Our ethos and reason for existing is this:
Write Shoot Cut is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing short and independent film. We do this because we believe there is a wealth of talent out there creating exciting work and there is an audience wanting to watch it. Short Film has become the fodder of websites like YouTube, however, Write Shoot Cut understands that the best place to view a film, no matter what length it is, is in a dark room with other people. That is why we exist and we will continue to screen short films from talented filmmakers to audiences who are delighted to watch and discover them.
If you have made a short film then you have nothing to lose in submitting it to Write Shoot Cut. We may screen it, we may not but at least you tried and it cost you the time it takes to write an email. Why not go for it?
Hidden in the depths of the venue is an intimate, 40 seat cinema which is the perfect Bohemian spot to showcase new talent to the world. So whether you are a filmmaker of a cinema lover, you can grab a pint and a bite to eat then make your way into the vault to watch some awesome short films.
